Katie was born and bred in Cumberland to Geoff and Jenny Mayne and lived
in Carlisle until the age of nine. The next move was to
Blitterlees in Silloth where the family remained for a year before moving into the Bank House at Bootle Station . The District Bank had employed her father
for many
years but when the bank amalgamated with the National Westminster he left and
took over the
tenancy of the Ship Inn on Holborn Hill in Millom .
After a short time in
the pub her parents bought a house in Marine view (Frying
pan) in Haverigg. She was a member of M.A.O.S and appeared
in numerous shows. Katie also used to sing regularly at
folk clubs, pubs, clubs and other venues throughout the
County. In particular she sang on a weekly basis at the
Station Hotel in Millom and the Harbour Hotel in Haverigg.
In 1974 Katie joined
the WRAF and continued to write her music , songs and poems. She has also
won awards for plays that she has written, performed and directed.
Although she has not lived in Cumbria
for some years she
still regularly visits her beloved Cumbria and continues to draw inspiration from the magnificent countryside and surround that she still calls
“HOME"
